Department of Human Capital Development Hosts Awards Ceremony on USM Gulf Park Campus

The Department of Human Capital Development at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus hosted its third annual awards ceremony Friday, April 29 on the University’s campus in Long Beach. 

Held in the Hardy Hall University Club, the awards ceremony recognized students, alumni and community partners for their outstanding performance and service to the Department of Human Capital Development.

“The faculty of the Department of Human Capital Development are very pleased to honor each of the 2016 award recipients,” said Dr. Heather Annulis, professor and program director. “Our students, alumni and community partners show an amazing commitment to our discipline and our University. Celebrating accomplishments and talents is an integral part of our department’s culture.”

During the ceremony, the department awarded eight individuals, consisting of graduate and doctoral students and a community partner. The award recipients include the following:  

Community Partnership Award: Presented to the Center for Talent Reporting for demonstrating exemplary commitment to the Department of Human Capital Development by engaging and providing essential opportunities for professional development. The Center for Talent Reporting is a nonprofit organization that develops and promotes the adoption of reporting standards for human capital that meet the needs of senior executives, talent management leaders, program managers and other stakeholders. 

Distinguished Alumni Award: Presented to Dr. Shannon Campbell, director of the Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship on the University’s Hattiesburg campus, for being an accomplished graduate of the human capital development program.

Dr. David Powe Learning Leader Award: Presented to doctoral student Catherine Cole for her ability to personify exemplary character, identify challenges as opportunities, exemplify high integrity in academic initiatives, demonstrate leadership qualities, and help others to achieve learning and personal accomplishments.

Drs. Jack and Patti Phillips Human Capital Analytics Award: Presented to doctoral student Taheesha Quarrells for demonstrating expertise in the ROI methodology, showing promise in the area of human capital analytics, consistently applying critical thinking to projects and problem solving, and using analytics to drive organizational improvement. 

Human Capital Development Outstanding Research Award: Presented to Dr. Richard Ayers for providing scholarly contribution through his research to the human capital development community and exemplifying the highest integrity in all research activities.

Outstanding Human Capital Development Master’s Student Awards: Presented to Ruth Mazara and Eric Lindell for demonstrating academic excellence; representing the department through presentations and publications; showing collegiality among the human capital development community; and contributing to the department, University and human capital development community through outreach activity.

Outstanding Human Capital Development PhD Student Award: Presented to Christian Lagarde for becoming an established colleague, adding an element of camaraderie and community to his classes, asking questions that spur learning discussions for all, and consistently seeking to integrate research and practice.
